A ski boot made from an old shoe

Recycle is not a rare thing for human society. We recycle cans into new cans and recycle paper into new paper. After all, the resource in the earth is limited. Of course, the money and life cost are also influence people deeply. Therefore, considering the production cost and environmental protection, waste recovery is necessary.

It’s known to all that the footwear production leads to environmental pollution. Last year, Salomon put forward the idea that recycling the old shoes into new ski boots. But how to make it? Our shoes generally made from not only one material. They are usually the combination of EVA, rubber, glue, etc. The combined material has few recovery value so that the final way it will be handled mostly is incineration. Thus, if a shoe can be recycled into a new one, it must be made from only one recycled material. Then the material Salomon chooses is TPU.

We have talked about performance of TPU material before. From the existing research, we can know that TPU is eco-friendly, stink-proof and recyclable. The first step Salomon’s going to do is producing shoes using TPU material only. Once the shoes is obsoleted, it will be recycled and manufacturer into TPU material again. Then the reclaimed TPU material will be combined with new TPU material and produced into new ski boots.

TPU can be chosen is not only for it is a kind of recyclable material but also its good performance of course. For example, TPU owns good performance in low temperature, which is necessary for a pair of high quality ski boots.
