Choose TPU tape instead of traditional elastics

Since TPU tape has been invented in 1995, it was popular to garment manufacturers till now. TPU tape, also named mobilon tape, is the common elastic material for shaping of knitwear. It is usually sewed on the shoulder part of T-shirt and the edge of socks. Then some may ask why clothes manufacturers choose TPU tape but not traditional elastics? Here we list three reasons.

1. Thickness

Thickness is the obvious advantage of TPU tape. As we know, traditional elastics is the combination of polyester and rubber, which is much more thicker than mobilon tape. The most thin traditional elastic can reach to thickness of 1.2 mm, while TPU tape is only 0.12 mm thick. The thinner mobilon tape can even at thickness of 0.08 mm. Why the thin tape is more popular? Actually, when the elastic is sewed on the shoulder part of T-shirt for shaping, the thicker elastic must affect the comfort of wearers and beauty of the clothes.

2. Transparency

TPU tape is a kind of clear transparent elastic tape. The transparency is the most obvious characteristic of TPU tape. Since it is clear transparent, mobilon tape can be invisible and hidden in the seam part of clothes. On top of that, manufacturers and designers don’t need to consider the color match of elastics and clothes. It helps the cost decrease of labor, time and dyeing.

3. Recycling possibility

Because of the feature of TPU material, TPU tape is recyclable. After all, TPU tape is totally made of TPU material without any other component. Therefore, TPU tape can be recycled and re-produced into another products. It is the eco-friendly feature that is different from rubber or other plastic materials.
