Shoulder tape in garment

If you have a close-up view of your T-shirt, you may find shoulder tapes on two sides. The shoulder tape is used for shaping. Thus T-shirt and other knitwear will not be easy to get out of shape after washing or hanging.

The shoulder tape is not easy to be find because it is transparent. Sometimes the tape will be hidden under the fabric. This transparent tape has it’s name “TPU tape”. It can also be called as mobilon tape or framilon tape.

TPU tape is only known to those who work for apparel industry because it is really easy to be ignored. Though TPU tape always hide from our eyes, it is necessary for a good quality knitwear. Some customers may confuse TPU elastic tape with TPU heat adhesive tape since they just looked the same. Actually, both of them are the accessories of garment, but they have different function. Heat adhesive tape is used for combine two piece of fabric without needlework. For example, seamless underwear chooses adhesive tape. However, TPU elastic tape is used for sewing on the seam part of clothes to decrease deformation rate.

We all know that knitwear is comfortable and breathable, but it is also easy to get out of shape. TPU elastic tape sewed on seam part not only remains the flexibility of knitwear by its stretch, but also keeps the shape of knitwear by its resilience. Besides, the transparency of TPU tape helps designers avoid trouble of color matching with fabric.
